Welcome to The Late Bloomer!

About Me

Hey, I'm Alyssa! I'm 29 years old and living in Oregon with my husband.

By trade, I'm a lawyer. By nature, I'm a storyteller.  I'm a daughter, sister, friend, and child of God who loves good books, meaningful conversations, fresh flowers, home projects, and finding beauty in ordinary moments.

Lately, life has looked a little bit like learning how to build a home, figuring out what's next professionally, and discovering that some of life's best seasons begin when you stop trying to have everything figured out.

For years, I thought adulthood would eventually arrive with a sense of certainty. Instead, I've learned that growth often looks less like arriving and more like becoming.

That's what you'll find here: a collection of stories, reflections, lessons, and little moments from a woman learning to bloom in her own time.

Why The Name, The Late Bloomer?

Blame it on my Grammy.

For as long as I can remember, she's said that the women in our family are "late bloomers." Growing up, I wasn't always sure how I felt about that. Being a late bloomer sounded a lot like being behind, as if everyone else had gotten the memo and I was still trying to catch up.

But the older I've gotten, the more I've realized what a gift it is. My Grammy didn't begin writing fiction until her forties. My mom, who raised me as a single mother, became the CEO of her own tech company in her forties and built something incredible. Neither woman followed someone else's timeline. They simply kept growing, learning, and becoming who they were meant to be.

For a long time, though, I struggled with comparison. I felt behind in dating, behind in confidence, behind in my career, and behind in becoming the person I thought I'd be by now. Then, somewhere along the way, I started asking different questions.

What if we're not behind? What if we're simply blooming in our own time? What if growth isn't something to rush, but something to embrace?

The Late Bloomer was born from those questions. This is a place for anyone who's ever felt behind in life. A place to embrace growth, celebrate small beginnings, and trust that God is still writing your story. Here, you'll find reflections on faith, personal growth, relationships, career, and the ordinary moments that shape us into who we're becoming.

Because blooming late doesn't mean you've missed your chance. It simply means your season is coming.

And maybe, just maybe, you're right on time.

Why I Started a Blog:

For years, friends and family encouraged me to start a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast. I always had a reason not to.

I wasn't ready. I wasn't experienced enough. I didn't have everything figured out. But eventually I realized something: I was waiting. Waiting until I felt more confident. Waiting until I had a clearer plan.

Waiting until I became the person I thought I needed to be before I could share my story.

Then one day it hit me, the whole point of growth is that it happens while we're becoming. Not after we've arrived. So I stopped waiting.

The Late Bloomer is my attempt to document the journey in real time, the lessons, the questions, the victories, the mistakes, and all the beautiful in-between moments. My hope is that this space reminds you that growth isn't linear, God's timing is good, and none of us are as behind as we think we are.

Maybe you're not behind. Maybe you're blooming.

And if that's true, then welcome. You're in the right place.
